See Luxury Living On A Small Scale In An Übercool Townhouse
In the natural order of things, clients hire designers to help them envision their dream space. But for Mariam Aboutaam, the creative director and lead designer for developer Kylemore, it’s the opposite: she envisions the clients first, then designs their dream space. She recently finished this 1,700-square-foot, three-storey model townhouse for a cool urban couple — ideal buyers who didn’t yet exist.
From the outset, Mariam imagined this model home as belonging to young city professionals with busy lives who love to entertain. While the space needed to feel refined, it was important to keep it approachable and attainable — luxury on a smaller scale.

Designer Mariam Aboutaam wanted to create an interesting architectural composition that didn’t feel predictable. “Developers can get a bad rap,” says Mariam. “- ‘It’s too stark’ or ‘it’s builder-beige’ is the nomenclature often attached to new-builds, so I wanted to depart from that.” The envelope takes its cues from traditional architecture (10-foot-high ceilings, expansive windows, ceiling moldings), while the decorating leans contemporary.
A hexagon mosaic tile “mat” adds pattern and texture in the front entry. The floor plan is unusual, with a lower-level covered porch, foyer, den and garage, and the kitchen, living, dining and powder rooms on the second floor (there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs). This provided both a challenge and an inspiration for the design of the house, which is just 15 feet wide.

Given the various characteristics of today’s housing market, what is your outlook for 2023?
Canada remains one of the world’s most coveted places to live. Immigration and migration flows to more densely populated areas such as the Greater Toronto Area, which are also places with a shortage of developable land. At a localized level, demand for new homes is ongoing. Kylemore’s business plans are focused on the long-term, necessitated by the nature of community development and homebuilding, which includes adjusting for the cyclical nature of real estate. We consider our product launch strategies and are prepared to adjust. COVID, for example, inspired us to modify home designs to fulfill work-from-home needs. Although there are many factors impacted by recent occurrences, we believe homebuyers at the luxury end of the market are more resilient and, as a result, the demand for our homes will be steady into 2023.

What advice would you offer to buyers?
A home is a long-term investment, and buyers would benefit from understanding that real estate is cyclical. With the long-term view is the knowledge that interest rates also change over time. Anyone considering a home purchase should look for a community where they can put down roots, enjoy life and raise a family, if that’s in their plans. I would also advise them to carefully research mortgage options before deciding. As well, choose a builder that has the resources and track record to deliver your home in the current environment. On one hand, take your time to compare prices and other lifestyle elements; on the other, if you are ready to become a homeowner, then go ahead and buy. You’ll find exciting opportunities now and in the future.
How is your company addressing the affordability issue?
It’s a complex issue that must be addressed on many levels. Kylemore has been participating in the City of Markham’s Affordability Forum in partnership with other builders and levels of government. In addition, we are open to innovation that will result in creating affordable homes. In our Angus Glen South Village community in Markham, we are delivering a mix of home styles to suit purchasers of varying ages and life stages. We are also incorporating home designs with in-law suites, self-contained coach houses and multi-generational living spaces. Among our future developments are communities close to public transit options, which is a key component of offering affordability.

RIBBON-CUTTING CELEBRATES ST. PHILIP’S ON-THE-HILL CONNECTION TO MARKHAM SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM
A shining example of community-building
MARKHAM, ON, SEPTEMBER 27, 2022 – Today, The Rev. Stephen Kern, Steward Mr. Pres Harrison, the wardens, and members of the St. Philip’s on-the-Hill Anglican Church congregation were joined by Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Ward 6 Councillor Amanda Yeung Collucci, and representatives of Kylemore, Minto Communities and Metropia for a ribbon-cutting celebration to mark the church’s connection to the City of Markham sanitary sewer system. St. Philip’s is one of Markham’s oldest churches originally built in 1839, situated north of 16th Avenue on Kennedy Road. In 1913, the church building was relocated south into Unionville village due to population growth around the railway, while the property was retained as a cemetery. The church moved back to its original site in a much larger building in 1986. It was never connected to the City’s sewer system because it was not available along Kennedy Road north of 16th.
The ribbon-cutting event was also a thank-you to Kylemore, Minto and Metropia, who are developing the significant new master-planned community on the former York Downs Golf Course, which is adjacent to St. Philip’s. Mayor Scarpitti presented three (3) Special Community Awards to representatives from each of the landowners - Frank Spaziani, President, Kylemore, Tiago Do Couto and Anderson Marques of Minto, and Glen Murphy representing Metropia. In his remarks, the Mayor said, “Our Motto is Leading While Remembering and this is another great example of making that motto come to life. We want to ensure as new communities welcome new families that our history is also preserved, thanks Kylemore, Minto and Metropia for making this infrastructure improvement possible.”
According to Pres Harrison, Steward at St. Philip’s, “In 2016 after York Downs was sold to its current owners, a long-awaited sanitary sewer connection for our church suddenly seemed possible. I approached Councillor Collucci (a member of St. Philip’s) to arrange an exploratory meeting with Mr. Spaziani to seek his assistance in securing a connection to the City’s sewer system for our building.”
Over the next few years, Kylemore worked alongside church representatives to navigate the complex web of applications and approvals required involving the City of Markham, planners, engineers, lawyers, a condominium corporation, and other parties to make the request become a reality. On March 5, 2022, Minto and Metropia completed the actual connection to Markham’s sewer system at a total cost of approximately $230,000.
In his remarks, Spaziani said, “Kylemore is very much a part of the Markham community. When we were approached with the request to assist St. Philip’s, we did what any good neighbour and corporate citizen would do – we listened, had a discussion with our partners, and ultimately pitched in to help. Together, through collaboration, we’re proud to have demonstrated our commitment to Markham and provide this support to the church and its members.”
The connection modernizes the church. In the early 1980s, when the congregation decided to move to a more spacious church building on the original site on the hill, knowing they would be on a sanitary septic tank for the foreseeable future, the congregation could only dream of when a sanitary sewer connection might happen.
“This whole experience has been extraordinary,” said The Rev. Kern. “A shining example of the positive impact corporations can contribute to the betterment of the communities in which they operate.”

On Thursday, August 13, the entire staff of Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) was treated to a delicious packed lunch courtesy of Kylemore Kares Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Angus Glen Golf Club prepared and delivered 1200 lunches on behalf of Kylemore.
“Every year the proceeds from the annual golf tournament are donated to charities. This year we wanted to say a special Thank You to frontline workers for going above and beyond the call of duty during these unprecedented times. We reached out to our local hospital to make the arrangements,” said Cailey Stollery, CEO Angus Glen and Kylemore Group of Companies.
2020 marks the thirteenth consecutive year the invitational tournament has been held at Angus Glen Golf Club. “We weren’t sure we would be permitted to go ahead, even if we had the support of our trades, suppliers and consultants. However, when the Province announced golf could resume, we called some of our contacts and found that they were eager to participate,” explained Frank Spaziani, Vice-President of Kylemore. “From there the Kylemore team together with the golf club worked tirelessly to ensure all health and safety precautions were met,” he added.
Cailey Stollery and Frank Spaziani, were joined by Suzette Strong, CEO and Allan Bell, Vice President, Community Relations and Corporate Partnerships, MSH Foundation for a symbolic cheque presentation. The lunches, combined with support provided in the early days of COVID-19, amounts to $30,000. The company has also responded to requests for special assistance due to the pandemic from Yellow Brick House and Participation House in Markham.
“Kylemore’s generous donation to Markham Stouffville Hospital speaks directly to the caring and generous spirit of our community. With this financial support and meal donation, our dedicated frontline staff is inspired and empowered,” said Suzette Strong. “Every contribution ensures our patients can receive the critical care they need, even in the face of unprecedented crisis. Thank you, Kylemore, for your long-standing support.”
The tournament was held on Friday, August 14 at Angus Glen Golf Club’s two 18-hole championship courses where golfers enjoyed outdoor on-course food, beverages, and entertainment.
In a pre-recorded video message Cailey Stollery and Frank Spaziani thanked sponsors for their ongoing support, not only of the tournament but also with quickly adapting to safety measures which allowed for the continued construction of Kennedy Manors luxury townhomes in Markham.
To date, approximately $1,950,000 in total funds has been raised and distributed to over 200 charities which include Canadian Mental Health, Evergreen Hospice, Sick Kids Foundation, Yellow Brick House, United Way, Children’s Wish, Hockey Helps the Homeless, Flato Markham Theatre, Unionville Home Society, Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation, as well as organizations serving seniors.

Just in time for the holidays, the Kylemore Team shopped for much needed Wish List items and delivered them to 360°kids. The donation included toiletries, slippers, a larm clocks, gift cards, pajamas and articles of clothing donated by Angus Glen Golf Club’s Nike Pro Shop.
Since 1988, 360°kids has provided a full complement of programs and services aimed at assisting at-risk and homeless youth with a focus on York Region. Taking a complete 360-degree approach to care, the charity provides a range of programs and services that are essential to the health and well-being of kids, including counselling, outreach services, housing support, positive mentorship and employment opportunities.
“The Kylemore Communities and Angus Glen Golf Club donations will certainly put a smile on the faces of the youth who are receiving ser-vices at 360°kids,” said Dan Zaroski, resource development associate at 360°kids. “The holiday season is a difficult one for youth who live in the shelter system; when caring and thoughtful businesses like these donate such wonderful gifts, all are reminded of the true meaning of the season! Thank you!”

Kylemore Kares Supports Hockey Helps The Homeless York Region
More than 245 players, 27 retired pros, almost 100 volunteers, 40 sponsors and more than 2,200 donors came together recently to help the homeless in York Region. As a result, Hockey Helps the Homeless (HHtH) York Region was able to grant more than $200,000 to its partner beneficiaries.
Kylemore Communities was one of 24 teams entered to play in York Region at this year’s Hockey Helps the Homeless Tournament held in Markham. Registered teams were assigned one or two former professional players, taking to the ice for three games during the day-long tournament held at Angus Glen Community Centre and Centennial Community Centre.
“It’s such an important event to raise awareness for the plight of people who are homeless and the charities that support them,” says Frank Spaziani, Kylemore’s vice-president and team captain. “Congratulations to the organizers for such a well-run and fun event. With the annual support of our consultants, trades and suppliers, Kylemore has been a donor to Hockey Helps the Homeless for many years.”

KYLEMORE'S 12th ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT ANOTHER 'ABOVE PAR' EXPERIENCE
Kylemore Communities held its 12th Annual Kylemore Kares Charity Golf Tournament on Tuesday, August 13 in Markham. The invitational tournament reserved Angus Glen Golf Club’s two 18-hole championship courses and the company’s trades people, consultants and suppliers enjoyed an early morning start. To date, approximately $1,750,000 in total has been raised and distributed to a variety of charities.
At the lunch celebration following the tournament, Kylemore’s CEO Cailey Stollery and Vice-President Frank Spaziani thanked everyone for their continued support. In their remarks they emphasized the importance of private donations in providing a much-needed boost to funding, enabling charities to continue to deliver the services and programs they offer.
A recipient organization of this year’s fundraising, Evergreen Hospice, was represented at the lunch by Lerryn Pitcher, Community Hospice Manager and Caroline Allen, Fundraiser. In her remarks Ms. Pitcher described the organization’s programs and support services, many of which would benefit from the $15,000 donation.
Evergreen Hospice provides community based supportive services to individuals and their families in Markham, Stouffville and Thornhill who are living with life-threatening illness or coping with the death of a loved one.
In previous years the tournament has supported over 200 charities, including Canadian Mental Health, Sick Kids Foundation, Yellow Brick House, United Way, Children’s Wish, Hockey Helps the Homeless, Flato Markham Theatre, Unionville Home Society, Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation, as well as organizations serving seniors.

Construction Starts on Kylemore's Luxury Town Manors

Kylemore Communities has announced the start of construction of Kennedy Manors Towns on the Park, following recent completion of roads and installation of services. The site is located within an existing residential pocket on the West side of Kennedy Road, North of 16th Avenue in Markham. The sold out neighbourhood of 132 luxurious Town Manors features classic architecture in combinations of stone, brick, and stucco.

Industry trades people, consultants and suppliers swapped their office attire for golf gear to participate in Kylemore Communities/Angus Glen Developments annual invitational tournament. The 11th Annual Kylemore Kares Charity Golf Tournament was held on both 18-hole championship courses at Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham, on Friday, August 24. To date, almost $1.5 million dollars has been raised and distributed to a variety of charities.
At the lunch following the tournament, CEO Cailey Stollery and family joined with Kylemore’s Vice-President Frank Spaziani to thank participants for their ongoing support over 11 years.
“There are so many charities and non-profit organizations who need assistance to continue to do what they do. Our approach has always been to provide support to as many as possible each year, and together we ensure this happens” said Frank Spaziani.
This year, Eric Lariviere, General Manager of Flato Markham Theatre attended the lunch. On behalf of all contributors, Kylemore presented Lariviere with a donation of $15,000 towards the Theatre’s foundation and Discovery Education Program and the Every Child, Every Year initiative. Every Child, Every Year offers students from grades one to six, enrolled in a Markham school, the opportunity to attend one performance free of charge.

Kylemore Kares Donates $100,000 to Ryerson University's Center of Urban Research and Development
Kylemore Communities is pleased to announce a new donation to Ryerson University’s Center of Urban Research and Development in the amount of $100,000.00. This donation is being made by Kylemore in recognition of Patrick O’Hanlon’s many years of service to residential development in the City of Markham while working in leadership positions with Kylemore. Kylemore plans to arrange for an appropriate plaque at Ryerson. Mr. O’Hanlon served as President of Kylemore Communities until his resignation in July of 2017. He has been active in his support of Ryerson advancement initiatives and he is a recipient of Ryerson’s prestigious Alumni Award of Distinction. The Centre of Urban Research and Development is an independent voice that provides advice and research results to government, business and citizens interested in the land development industry. With this donation, Kylemore continues to demonstrate its leadership and forward thinking in the residential development community.

Kylemore caps off 20th anniversary year with grand celebration
MARKHAM, ON., Luxury home builder and land developer, Kylemore Communities/Angus Glen Development celebrated the end of 2017 by organizing a Thank You party for its consultants, suppliers and staff at Spice Route Asian Bistro in Toronto.
Hundreds of guests attended the evening celebration hosted by Cailey Stollery, CEO and Lindsay Stollery Jephcott CIO of Angus Glen and Kylemore Group of Companies, and Kylemore’s Vice President Frank Spaziani.
“We are proud to have these twenty years at the top of our industry with many significant awards received for our homes and communities,” said Cailey Stollery. “It is only fitting that we thank our trades, suppliers and consultants for their loyalty, support and unwavering attention to detail that together make a Kylemore home among the most desirable in the GTA.”
An important part of the company’s annual Holiday Celebration is a Toy Drive, and this year’s donations were incredibly generous. Toys and games were contributed to the Markham-based Christmas Hampers program which distributed 223 hampers to grateful local families in December 2017.
Guests enjoyed delicious food, friendship, music and a special appearance by Jessica Holmes, Canadian comedian and actress best known for her work with the Royal Canadian Air Farce.
.Speaking on behalf of her seven sisters, whose late father founded Kylemore in 1997, Cailey Stollery expressed the importance of this twenty-year milestone for her family.

What we learned about smart homes by talking to home builders
Throughout the month of August, we chatted with five home builders about the use of smart home technology, and we learned a lot.
We had the chance to discuss smart homes with representatives from Branthaven Homes, Canderel, Heathwood Homes, Kylemore Communities, and Losani Homes. Here’s what we learned:
1) Buyers aren’t asking for smart home upgrades
It’s just not as much of a priority as the ad campaigns make it out to be. Yes, you’ll see Google Home ads before a movie at your local theatre and you’ll read reports about the success of digital home assistants, but that doesn’t mean buyers expect builders to offer these features.
Losani was the only builder who said they’ve seen an increase in buyer interest in smart home upgrades.
2) Cost is not a deterrent
Most of the builders said that prices have come down quite a bit over the years, so it’s no longer an expensive upgrade. So, this isn’t the reason buyers aren’t asking builders about smart home features.
3) Technology is evolving too quickly
When you buy in the new home industry, it’s two or more years before you move in. In the smart tech industry, a lot can change over this amount of time, so the feature the builder was selling may be outdated by the time the home is ready. This is a major reason why smart home features aren’t being offered as standard or even upgrades.
4) Cross-platform compatibility is a must
There are so many smart home systems available, but they’re not all fully or smoothly compatible on all devices. It’s a headache for the builder and buyer trying to figure this out because it’s impossible to know what the resident will want to use to control their smart home.
5) Might be easier to just suggest a supplier
Kylemore’s approach is to just build smart home ready, then they leave it up to the buyer to make any upgrades they want. Kylemore recommends suppliers if the buyer inquires, but when it comes to system selection and installation, they stay out of it. At this point in time, we think this is a wise strategy.
6) Smart homes will be standard someday
Though there are clearly wrinkles to iron out, there was still no hesitation or question from all builders that smart homes will be standard someday. It’s only a matter of time. The research to make it happen is being done in both the new home and tech industries.

Kylemore raises $10,000 for Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada
Kylemore Communities and Angus Glen Development recently hosted their 10th annual Kylemore Kares Charity Golf Tournament at Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham.
200 golfers, consisting of Kylemore’s trades, consultants, and suppliers, participated in the charity tournament. To date, Kylemore Kares has raised more than $1.3 million for a variety of charities and organizations.
At the lunch after the tournament, the City of Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti congratulated Kylemore and all the golfers on another successful year of raising money for an excellent cause.

Tiffany MacDonald, Provincial Director of Ontario, Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, as well as past wish recipient, Roxy and her family, were in attendance to accept a $10,000 donation. The money will go towards granting a child’s wish.
In the past, Kylemore Kares has supported many other charities and organizations, including the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation, the ALS Society of Canada, Union Villa, The Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport at the University of Toronto, and many other sports and theatre programs.
Big year for Kylemore Communities

Maybe builders should just recommend smart home suppliers
Since there are so many smart home features and products available, it can be difficult for a new home builder to offer them as upgrades. For now, it may be wise for most builders to ensure the homes are simply compatible with smart home products and just recommend a supplier when homebuyers request them.
“Today, there’s very little required for smart technology integration into a home because it’s all wireless. We run Cat 5 wiring throughout so our homeowners only need the wireless devices,” says Craig Brown, Contracts Manager, Kylemore Communities.
“We recommend a specialty supplier to our purchasers,” he adds. “They use Sonos and Control4 Whole Home integration to tie together security, cameras, programmable lighting, door locks, heat, pool equipment, motorized window treatments, and all of this can be controlled through a cell phone or iPad/tablet.”
Though Kylemore isn’t directly offering smart home upgrades, they still recognize that some buyers desire these types of features, especially since Kylemore builds a higher-end product. The more higher-end the home, the more customization the buyer expects, which makes Kylemore’s approach even more appropriate.
Brown explains, “These systems also have bluetooth communication so it’s possible that just by walking up to your house the system would unlock your doors without a key, turn off your security alarm, turn on your pre-selected lights to your dimmer setting and open your blinds to your favourite settings. It can activate a sound system and when you leave, it will reverse these procedures. The wireless options now are unlimited all through your WIFI.”
Having your lights flip on and blinds open automatically for you? That sounds like luxury living.
Smart home upgrades seem expensive, but according to Kylemore, cost isn’t really a huge obstacle. “I think costs have come down considerably since we first started to hear about smart home technology, and there’s built-in flexibility so you can pick and choose what you want to add and pay for. There are also more suppliers so you can shop around for comparison before deciding.”
By not offering a smart home package with their new homes, Kylemore is potentially making the products more affordable for buyers, allowing them to pick and choose the features they want from a variety of providers.
When we asked whether Kylemore would ever team up with a tech giant like Google to offer smart home upgrades, Brown said that their system is working well and they will continue with their current approach.
“It’s such a personal preference and once a system is set up the user needs proper instruction to use it effectively; this isn’t something we get involved with.”

Kylemore celebrates 20th anniversary in the Year of the Rooster!
Last week, Kylemore Communities kicked off their 20th year in style, celebrating the Year of the Rooster! Markham-based builder, Kylemore, is well known for their master-planned, award-winning Angus Glen community, which consists of low-rise homes, two mid-rise condo buildings, parks, and retail/office.

Kylemore's Toy Drive
Kylemore Communities’ annual toy drive helps 200 families
Once again, Kylemore’s Annual Holiday Party for trades, consultants and colleagues has kicked-off the season in high style! The Markham-based luxury homebuilder and developer hosts the get-together to thank its building partners for their contribution to another successful year. Guests are asked to bring a new toy to help brighten the holidays for Markham families.

For a fifth consecutive year, the toys collected were donated to the Christmas Food and Toy Drive organized by Unionville Alliance Church (UAC) and partner churches, which in turn distribute hampers to area families.
Russell Foy, UAC, Hampers of Hope volunteer, was on hand to receive the toys.
“We are extremely grateful to Kylemore and their many partners for the wonderful boost our annual toy drive receives. With their support we will be able to help 200 families this year,” he said.

Last month, Kylemore Communities hosted their 9th Annual Kylemore Kares Charity Golf Tournament in Markham at Angus Glen Golf Club, raising money for local charities and organizations.
212 golfers, including Kylemore consultants, trades, and suppliers, attended the special event. The day consisted of an early breakfast, a round of 18 holes, and a great lunch where prizes were awarded.
“What’s foremost in our minds is to lend a hand to charities and non-profit groups each year, and there’s no doubt that the need is great,” says Kylemore’s President Patrick O’Hanlon. “We’re committed to making a difference in our communities. We can design and build a house, we can plan a community, but it’s the people who make it feel like home.”

This year, two Canadian Olympians, Vicky Sunohara and Jayna Hefford, attended the Charity Golf Tournament. These gold medallists played for Team Canada and also play for the University of Toronto’s Varsity Blues, which was one of the recipients of this year’s Tournament.
The special guest speaker this year was Ira Jacobs, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto, who showed his appreciation for Kylemore’s support and funding for the new Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport, which was completed in fall 2014.
To date, more than $1.2 million has been raised and donated directly to local charities and organizations. In the past, Kylemore’s Charity Golf Tournament supported Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation, ALS Society of Canada, Union Villa, and other local sports, cultural and theatre programs.
Kylemore has built and developed 1,440 homes in the Angus Glen community in Markham, and when a builder is that dedicated to the flourishment of an area, it makes perfect sense to ensure that locals are supported through the growth. Kylemore's Annual Barbecue a Recipe for Community Building
Markham, Ontario, July 6, 2016... It was another scorcher on Saturday, June 18th for Kylemore Communities’ 19th Annual Community Event. The company welcomed more than 1,500 residents of award-winning Angus Glen Community, to an afternoon of food and entertainment in the neighbourhood park. The event kicked off with a children’s parade along neighbourhood streets, led by Markham’s Fire Department, and ended at Colty Corner’s park.

Children also enjoyed the balloon artist and face painters, and tenants of The Shoppes of Angus Glen offered their own entertainment and provided information about the services they offer to the neighbourhood.

“The true winners of this tournament are the charities and non-profit groups we are able to assist each year, as a result of this monumental fund-raising effort,” said Kylemore’s President Patrick O’Hanlon.
Golfers enjoyed a hearty breakfast before teeing off at 8:00 am. A glorious day was followed by lunch and musical entertainment, and the awarding of some terrific prizes. Special guest Attilio Lio, Zodiac Developments, speaking on behalf of York Region Children’s Aid Foundation, shared his deep appreciation for the funds they receive.
“Everything we raise goes right back to the community,” said O’Hanlon. “We support universities and hospitals, as well as smaller community-based organizations and individuals who need our help.”
In the past Kylemore has supported The Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport at University of Toronto, Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation, the ALS Society of Canada, Union Villa as well as sports and theatre programs. The funds raised at the golf tournament will be distributed throughout the year.

ANGUS GLEN COMMUNITY BARBECUE CELEBRATES 18 YEARS
Markham, Ontario, August 11, 2015… Recently, Kylemore Communities held the 18th Annual Barbecue for families of its award-winning Angus Glen Community in Markham. The event kicked-off at 10:30a.m. with a parade led by Firefighters from Markham’s Fire Department along neighbourhood streets to Colty Corner’s Park.

The creatures from Reptilia caused a buzz and the inflatables were very popular with children. A balloon artist and face painters contributed to the festivities and many attendees tried their skill at the putting activity sponsored by Angus Glen Golf Club. Businesses from The Shoppes of Angus Glen also came out to share information with residents.

BRIDGE CONNECTING TWO MARKHAM NEIGHBOURHOODS OPENS
MARKHAM, ON., APRIL 17, 2015 - The only paved connection between the East and West Villages of award-winning Angus Glen Community in Markham is now officially complete. To mark the occasion, City of Markham Mayor, Councillor Amanda Collucci, and ratepayers association president Paul Bourbonniere joined with Lindsay Stollery and Kylemore Communities’ Patrick O’Hanlon and Frank Spaziani, to be first to cross Blackstock Bridge, and likely the only ones to do so in golf carts. Guests were invited to unveil one of four naming plaques installed on the bridge.
The bridge is named after Frank Blackstock Stollery, the grandfather of Arthur Stollery who purchased the land known as Angus Glen in the 1950s. Frank Stollery’s father, William, was a Toronto-area home builder and entrepreneur who loaned Frank $1,000 which he used to open his own haberdashery shop on Yonge Street at Bloor in 1901. Frank named the business “Stollerys” which ultimately grew to be a city landmark and destination shop for men’s and women’s wear until it sold in 2015. Frank remained active in the retail clothing profession until his retirement in 1968.
“We are pleased the bridge is named after Frank in recognition of the Stollery family’s history in home building and entrepreneurship,” said Lindsay Stollery, great-granddaughter of Frank Blackstock Stollery.
Since 1997, Kylemore has been developing and building Angus Glen Community. “It has always been in our master-plan to connect the two neighbourhoods by extending Angus Glen Boulevard across the creek. We know that the residents will appreciate this new route to get around from home, to parks, shops, the Angus Glen Community Centre, Angus Glen Golf Club and local schools,” said Patrick O’Hanlon, president of Kylemore Communities. Kylemore worked under the direction of the Ministry of Natural Resources to ensure the bridge-building program caused the least amount of disruption to the creek and environment.

Markham, Ontario, June 24, 2014… On Saturday, June 14th more than 1,300 adults and children, all residents of Kylemore Communities’ award-winning Angus Glen Community, gathered for the 17th Annual Barbecue. The event kicked off with a children’s parade along neighbourhood streets, led by two of Markham’s Fire Department engines, and ended at Colty Corner’s park.
“Community events give people a good reason to get together,” said Kylemore’s President Patrick O’Hanlon. “That’s why we continue to offer this free, family-friendly barbecue each year. As our building program expands, annual attendance climbs, and the relationships between neighbours grows. It’s a part of Kylemore’s plan to continually promote a neighbourly environment within each of our communities.”
